CYROI will ensure the day-to-day management of the project, guarantee its smooth implementation, and maintain effective communication with the EC and the consortium, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, deadlines, and budget. This mission will be supported by the recruitment of a Project Manager and the involvement of the administrative, financial, and technology transfer departments.
WP Leaders (WPLs) will ensure that activities remain aligned with the work plan and that deliverables are successfully completed.
This WP also covers budget monitoring, with the active involvement of partners, data management in line with the FAIR principles (“findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable”), as well as quality assurance and impact monitoring for all project deliverables.
Associated deliverables:
D2.1 – Project Management Handbook
D2.2 – Data Management Plan
D2.3 – Progress report
D2.4 – Quality Assurance Report
D2.5 – Update of the Data Management Plan
D2.6 – Final version of the Data Management Plan
WP3 – Learning and implementing 4Rs-compliant skills in the Outermost Regions
Objectives:
- Acquire essential scientific skills (aligned with the 4Rs principles) through mobility and knowledge-sharing at Advanced institutions, firmly grounded in the Secondment plan.
- Ensure efficient implementation of acquired skills in Widening regions via training sessions and mentoring
- Maximizing and improving the efficiency of available scientific infrastructures and training staff in Widening regions.
- Contribute to the secondees’ Personal Career Development Plan, enhancing the secondment’s impact on future employability, knowledge sharing, and establishing a network for long-term collaborations
Description of work :
WP3 aims to strengthen the scientific capacities of the Widening partners through a structured secondment programme. It begins with the identification of key scientific skills to be developed and the preparation of mobilities, including the definition of learning objectives, timelines, and individual Career Development Plans (CDPs). Clear guidelines and a dedicated handbook will support the preparation phase.
The WP then implements the Secondment Plan to enable the acquisition of advanced, 4Rs-compliant methodologies (e.g. 3D models and preclinical imaging), supported by mentoring, bilateral exchanges, and continuous monitoring.
Finally, WP3 ensures the effective transfer and implementation of the acquired skills within the home institutions, promoting internal knowledge sharing, reinforcing R&I capacities, strengthening long-term collaborations, and enhancing researchers’ career development and employability.
Associated deliverables:
D3.1 – Handbook for the Preparation Phase of Secondments
D3.2 – Career Development Plan
D3.3 – Report on the Implementation of 4Rs-Compliant Skills in the ORs
WP4 - Cross-sectoral learning and implementation of other transferable skills in outermost regions
Objectives:
- To learn other essential skills in regard of the creation of an efficient R&I ecosystem (managerial, entrepreneurial skills) through mobility and workshops
- To raise the capabilities of academic institutions in Widening countries to become valuable partners in a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem
- To exchange knowledge and good practices for sustainable innovations
- To provide a supportive environment that encourages personnel from Widening regions to exchange on topics of interest: gender equality, industry engagement, privacy and data protection, and media
- To improve the management of the quality in laboratories based on Good Laboratory Practices of OECD
Description of work :
WP4 aims to strengthen the innovation, entrepreneurial and transferable skills of the Widening partners through a structured cross-sectoral secondment programme. It starts with a joint mapping of technologies, infrastructures and transferable skills within the Consortium, enabling partners to identify strengths and capacity gaps. Common guidelines and personalized career plans are established to prepare mobilities and align training objectives.
The WP then implements secondments focused on innovation and business development, including intellectual property, patenting, licensing, biotech company creation, quality standards, market analysis, business models, funding strategies and sustainability. Academic staff benefit from direct exposure to industry practices, facilitating the translation of research results into marketable solutions. Progress is closely monitored through regular reporting and consortium follow-up.
WP4 ensures the effective implementation of the acquired skills within the home institutions through mentoring and targeted support. This phase strengthens institutional attractiveness, fosters innovation ecosystems, enhances employability, and contributes to reducing brain drain by empowering researchers to lead IP management, startup creation and research valorisation initiatives.
Associated deliverables:
D4.1 – Report of secondments
D4.2 – Updated report of secondments
D4.3 – Report on implementation of transferable & entrepreneurial skills in the ORs
D4.4 – Updated (and final) report of secondments
WP5 - Strengthen R&I Capacities and Sustainability of the FOCUS-4R consortium
Objectives:
- Enhancing knowledge transfer in the Consortium by consolidating learning through workshop sessions
- Creation of an Internal Mentoring Community (IMC) and assignment of mentors to early-stage researchers and innovators
- Ensure the long-term sustainability of the Consortium
- Collect learned lessons, good practices and recommendations to enhance cross-sectoral collaboration, help institutions and regions attracting talents across sectors and implement secondments and career-enhancing mechanisms
Description of work :
The WP5 aims to foster knowledge circulation, lifelong learning and the long-term sustainability of the Consortium. It establishes a network-wide training programme offering workshops in scientific, entrepreneurial and transferable skills to strengthen R&I capacities across all partners. These workshops promote cross-sectoral collaboration between academia and industry and include hands-on sessions. Their content will be recorded and transformed into Online Training Courses to ensure continued access beyond the project’s duration.
The WP also focuses on building a sustainable network through the creation of an Online Sharing Platform, providing access to training materials, guidelines and shared resources, while facilitating data exchange, job dissemination and future joint funding opportunities. An Internal Mentoring Committee will further support researchers beyond the project lifetime.
This WP capitalises on project outcomes by developing a sustainability plan outlining best practices for cross-sectoral collaboration, talent sharing and the use of innovative and ethical research approaches. It will define strategic orientations to extend collaboration, enhance regional attractiveness, and maximise the societal and economic impact of the project in the Outermost Regions.
Associated deliverables:
D5.1 – Workshop plan
D5.2 – Sustainability plan
D5.3 – Lectures and workshop materials as OTCs
WP6 - Communication & Dissemination
Objectives:
- To ensure maximum visibility of the project through tailored communication activities to raise awareness about the potential of FOCUS-4R, reach out to society and show its impact and benefits
- To disseminate information to a wide range of relevant stakeholders to engage the community behind the project and be active in transferring knowledge and results
- To engage Widening stakeholders to create strong local ecosystems
Description of work :
The WP6 aims to maximise the visibility, dissemination, exploitation and long-term impact of the project. It includes the development and regular update of a Plan for Communication, Exploitation and Dissemination (PDEC), defining objectives, target audiences, channels, timeline, and impact assessment through dedicated KPIs. A long-term exploitation strategy will ensure continued visibility and use of results up to four years after the project’s end.
The WP implements a comprehensive communication strategy, including a visual identity, website, social media presence, newsletters, press releases, multimedia content and participation in science outreach events. Synergies with other ERA Talent projects will further expand visibility and exchange of good practices.
Dissemination activities target the biomedical community and broader stakeholders through scientific publications, conference presentations, open access repositories and accessible summaries of key results, in line with Open Science principles.
WP6 strengthens engagement with local ecosystems in the Outermost Regions by involving academia, industry, policymakers and civil society (quadruple helix). Dedicated workshops and tailored materials will support regional innovation strategies, identify growth drivers and key actors, and promote sustainable, innovation-friendly frameworks aligned with regional needs
